TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Former President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁), who is currently on medial parole after being convicted of corruption, has received conditional permission to attend an annual fundraising dinner in Taipei on Friday. Chen is not allowed to enter the venue, go on a stage or give a speech, Taichung Prison said. It is a condition of Chen's medical parole that he is also not permitted to talk about politics or be interviewed by the press. The former president is bound by the regulations detailed in the warrant he signed for medical parole on Jan. 5, 2015, the prison noted. Last year Chen was allowed to attend the event but not permitted to address the gathering.
