Ex-PBA star charged with tax evasion


Criminal charges were filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Tuesday before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against former PBA star player and coach Franz Pumaren in connection with his unpaid tax liabilities. The BIR filed a complaint against Pumaren and his All Best Chodvale Development Inc. for his alleged failure to pay taxes amounting to P20.45 million in 2009. The BIR, in a statement, alleged that two other companies, Bistro Italiano Corp. and Cebu Fiesta Island of the South Restaurant Corp. were also charged with tax evasion. A company engaged in the business of setting up and maintaining restaurants and coffee shops, Quezon City-based Bistro Italiano has been assessed by the BIR with a tax liability of P4.29 million for 2007. Meanwhile, Cebu Fiesta, which is into the food court business, failed to settle P7.99 million in taxes for 2008.
