“When you look at it, and it’s remarkable, the support I’ve had, it’s been overwhelming,” Boyle said Thursday morning, hours before facing his former Leaf teammates at the Air Canada Centre. The 32-year-old Boyle signed a two-year deal with the Devils over the summer but, during a training camp physical, team doctors diagnosed Boyle with a rare form of cancer — chronic myeloid leukemia— in its early stages. “It will be a running story for me, and (my family and I) want to make the best of it,” Boyle said. I am fortunate, I’ve had to take medications and I’ve been able to get them and now I can carry on normally, day to day. We want to continue to try and help others work through other forms of cancer as well.
