Thanks in part to Bolivia’s divided opposition, recent polls show Morales will likely win the election, but with his weakest mandate yet. Mesa has only given a handful of media interviews and has campaigned on a platform of strengthening democratic institutions and fighting graft – a sign of how popular Morales’ economic model is. “They’re offering the same thing that Evo has done all these years,” Lisette Gemio, a 50-year-old agricultural engineer, said of Mesa’s campaign.
