Evictions cost private renters in England £70m a year

Private renters in England are losing out on about £70m a year when landlords kick them out as missed time at work, cleaning bills and moving costs stack up to £1,400 each on average, housing campaigners say. The campaign group Generation Rent, which calculated the costs of moving out, said more than half the public believed landlords should foot the bill. The government’s public consultation on scrapping no-fault evictions using section 21 notices closes this weekend. It commissioned a YouGov survey of private renters and found that among those that intended to vote, 67% agreed they would be more likely to support a government that said it would scrap no-fault evictions. Now they need to see it through and prove that they really do care about our nation’s renters.”
