Comfort food. The psychological reasons for reaching for comfort food, typically defined as dishes that are highly flavoured (sweet or savoury), fatty, carbohydrate-rich, and familiar from our childhoods, are well documented. Eating tasty food releases dopamine, the “feel good hormone”, in our brains. Food can be a tool for creativity, but it can also be a stabilising force, a way to find reassurance and connection. Go forth and eat comfort food, I say.
