Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is plotting a summer transfer bid for Manchester United outcast Chris Smalling. The centre-back has impressed during a loan spell away from Old Trafford with Italian club Roma and is attracting interest from Everton and Premier League rivals Tottenham . Ancelotti rates Smalling highly and is keen to make the centre-back his first summer signing at Goodison Park. Everton will face competition from Spurs with Jose Mourinho, who managed Smalling at Old Trafford, hoping to sign Smalling to bolster their defence. Both Premier League clubs would be able to offer Smalling a pay rise on his current deal at Roma which is in the region of £50,000-a-week.
