McCarthy explained that Eva’s brother, Heinz, who was a talented musician and artist, befriended Margot Frank, Anne’s older sister. “Heinz and Margot Frank, almost at the same day, received a notice to report to work camp in Germany. The Franks hid in the business they had, but Eva’s family had to split up because her dad didn’t think somebody would take four people. While the family was being transported to Auschwitz, Heinz asked his sister to promise she would retrieve his paintings if she made it out. Eva and her mother eventually made it out of the death camp, but Heinz and Eva’s father did not survive.
