Coronavirus cases are continuing to rise rapidly across Europe. Elsewhere Italy's second wave of coronavirus infections have hit a new high, with 4,458 confirmed cases, the highest number of new infections since April. Italy's southern Campania region added 757 cases, with the virus bearing down in southern regions far less equipped to handle it. The Madrid region has a 14-day infection rate of 591 coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents, more than twice Spain's national average of 257 and five times the European average rate of 113 for the week ending Sept. 27.
