In soccer, extra time has become a moment of dread. Poland, a side that didn’t lose a match at Euro 2016, was eliminated by semifinalist Portugal, a side that hasn’t won a match in regulation. Instead of reducing the tournament back to 16 teams, perhaps 20 is a better number.
