Northern Ireland beat Ukraine 2-0 for its first victory at a European Championship, ending a 34-year wait for a win at an international competition. With five changes to the side that lost its opener to Poland, Northern Ireland bounced back strongly from a poor performance when it didn't muster a shot on goal. Northern Ireland's last win at a major international competition came in 1982 when it beat World Cup host Spain.Ukraine was left without a win through two games in Group C. Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley headed in a free kick from Oliver Norwood at the far post in the 49th minute, building on a strong finish to the first half. Substitute Niall McGinn added the second goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
