“During almost every election since 1975, minorities were attacked and tortured, but this year no such incidents happened” it said. Reading out a written statement he said: “Ethnic minorities cast their votes peacefully without any fear this time. We think this is a great achievement and development which indicates the beginnings of a democratic environment in the country. “Despite initiatives taken by the government for protecting ethnic minorities, many incidents occurred in different parts of the country. Among others, Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad President Huebard (check spelling)Gomez, Presidium member Kajol Debnath, Nirmol Rozario, and Organizing Secretary Dipangkar Ghosh, were present at the press conference.
