Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa will on Saturday host the annual Irrecha thanksgiving festival, that is expected to bring together millions of Oromos from all over the country. This is the first time the festival is being held in the capital, in over a century. The Oromia region lies south of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and the Oromos have previously clashed with the federal government over control of the capital. In 2016, clashes between security forces and the Oromos left at least 52 people dead, at the Irrecha festival celebrated in the town of Bishoftu.
