The 35 Ethiopian train conductors had already received one-year training from Chinese professionals inside Ethiopia and are set to be given six more months of training in Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College. Ethiopia hopes to send soon another group of 35 train conductors to China for further training, underlining the critical support China gives to Ethiopia's capacity building program. China is a keen supporter of Ethiopia's rail infrastructure building program, with Chinese expertise and funding helping build a 4 billion U.S. dollars 756 km electrified rail line connecting landlocked Ethiopia to Djibouti port. Ethiopia and China are working together to boost the capacity of Ethiopian rail professionals, with a view to eventually helping local staff completely take over the operations of the Ethiopia-Djibouti rail line.
