Ethiopian Hiyane Lama, in her first visit to SA and in her first 10km race, won the opening leg of the Spar women's grand prix series in Green Point in Cape Town this morning in 33:42. Xaba is the last South African to win a race and the last to win the overall Women’s Grand Prix Series. It looked like Xaba was going to win the race with 2km left but newcomer Lama and Gebre accelerated past her for a one and two finish. Kesa Molotsane, the 2017 winner, finished fourth in 34:07, followed by Cacisile Sosibo, who finished fifth in 34:09.
