KHARTOUM, Sudan - Ethiopia’s prime minister met with Sudan’s ruling generals and protest leaders on Friday in a bid to revive negotiations amid a crackdown on demonstrations that has killed more than 100 people since Monday. He arrived in Sudan as the crisis following the overthrow of longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir turned increasingly violent. The African Union, based in Ethiopia, suspended Sudan on Thursday and threatened “punitive sanctions” if the military doesn’t quickly relinquish power. There was no immediate comment from the military council or the Ethiopian prime minister. After al-Bashir’s ouster, the Ethiopian prime minister had congratulated the Sudanese people for their “resilience in leading change” toward a democratic Sudan.
