Ahmed's congratulatory statement came shortly after Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance reached a deal on establishing transitional authorities to jointly govern the country. Ahmed also reiterated the Ethiopian government's continued support to Ethiopia's western neighboring nation. "The government of Ethiopia wishes a prosperous and peaceful new chapter for Sudan," Ahmed added. Sudan has been plagued by nationwide unrest since former President Omar al-Bashir was ousted by the military in April.
