Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed called for peaceful resolution of differences between Ethiopia and Sudan amid border dispute. Our choice is for mutual trust to prevail between us,” state run Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) quoted Ahmed as saying in his Arabic statement issued Wednesday evening. The Ethiopian PM further emphasized that there should not be confrontations between the two neighboring countries because of external pressures. “The AU Commission chairperson appeals for complete refrain from any military action whatever its origin and calls for dialogue between the two brotherly countries to solve any dispute,” an AU statement read. Ethiopia and Sudan have longstanding competing claims over the Al-Fashaqa border region, an area of fertile land settled by Ethiopian farmers that Sudan claims is within its boundary.
