THE sights, sounds and smells of Ethiopia will fill Footscray this Saturday at the Ethiopian New Year Festival. Festival organiser and Ethiopian Community Association in Victoria president Adamu Tefera said the annual festival had grown from humble beginnings twelve years ago to become a truly multicultural event, showcasing the cultural diversity and cohesiveness of Footscray. “At the time we first decided to hold a new year festival, there were many Ethiopian-Australians who resided in the City of Maribyrnong and many Ethiopian businesses thriving, so we thought it was a good time to introduce Ethiopian culture to the wider community,” Mr Tefera said. “Since then it has continued to grow and become an event of great significant to the Ethiopian community. “Please join us in celebrating the Ethiopian New Year and enjoy the vibrant, joyful culture and performances the Ethiopian community is renowned for.”The Ethiopian New Year Festival will take place this Saturday, September 9 from 11am-5pm.
