Dr. Chala Wata is said to have been involved in corruption when he was the president of Bule Hora University. The statement from the parliament said millions of Ethiopian birr was deposited to his account and a residential building under his spouse’s name was discovered. Mr. Chala defended himself with the hope of reversing the decision to revoke his parliamentary immunity – which was not a success. While admitting that the action was taken, Dr. Chala Wata claimed that it was due to the situation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic and the issue could be investigated.
