Ethiopian Airlines will resume flights to the Tigrayan capital of Mekelle on Wednesday following a lengthy suspension due to the conflict in the northern part of the country. The development was announced by Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tassew at a press briefing on Tuesday, just weeks after the Federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPFL) struck a peace deal aimed at ending the two-year conflict. FANA reports that the airline will make a decision on whether or not to increase flights to the northern region based on demand. The announcement of the impending resumption of flights by the Ethiopian Airlines comes just a day after a delegation from the Ethiopian federal government traveled to Tigray to oversee the implementation of last month’s peace agreement. The group is the first high-level federal delegation that has traveled to Tigray in two years.
