East African carrier Ethiopian Airlines has firmed options on nine additional Boeing 787-9s and finalized a Dubai Air Show commitment, exercising 11 737-8 options. Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the additional 787s will be used for growth under the airline’s Vision 2035 expansion strategy. “The airline’s latest 787 purchase follows its commitment for 11 737 MAX jets announced at the Dubai Air Show. Both orders were finalized in December 2025 and boosts Ethiopian Airlines’ orderbook by a total of 20,” Boeing said. Ethiopian Airlines operates the largest Boeing fleet in Africa and has the continent’s largest backlog of 737 MAXs, 777X and 787s, Boeing said.
