ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Wednesday evening reported 545 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, as the total number of confirmed cases hit 126,786 in the country. The ministry also disclosed that the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country reached 1,965 as of Wednesday evening, including two new COVID-19 related deaths reported during the last 24-hour period. It also said that some 11,845 of the total reported COVID-19 cases are active cases, of which 230 of the patients are said to be under severe conditions. Ethiopia, Africa's second-most populous nation with about 107 million people, has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the east African region. Ethiopia is the fifth-most COVID-19 affected country in the African continent, after South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.
