Ethiopia opens performing arts centre named after national composer Ashenafi Kebede


The project aims to popularise the country's cultural wealthEthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated the Ashenafi Kebede Performing Arts Centre built by Addis Ababa University in Yared School of Music. The politician said a lot of work will be needed to popularise the country's historical and cultural wealth. The Yared School of Music is contributing immensely to Ethiopia's history and cultures in other countries, Abiy Ahmed emphasised. The institution is named in honour of renowned contemporary Ethiopian music performer, composer, conductor, historical musicologist, music educator, writer and poet Professor Ashenafi Kebede. Kebede combined Ethiopian and Asian motifs in his compositions.
