Ethiopia lobbies to relocate CAF headquarters

Photo: CYRIL NDEGEYA / AFPADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Football Federation will lobby for the relocation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters from the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. It is believed that the CAF congress in Addis Ababa in March will present an opportunity for the idea to be lobbied at the highest level. Local media quoted a football federation source as saying Ethiopia was seeking support from many CAF members who believed Cairo was “far from them, and it’s difficult to get direct flights to the north African country”. The confederation was actually set in motion outside Africa – in Lisbon, Portugal in June 1956 – according to the CAF website.
