Ethiopia has finalized construction of the Genale Dawa Hydro electric power dam as it is preparing to launch another power project on Omo River at a cost of $2.7 billion, an official said on Tuesday.In an exclusive interview with APA, Bizuneh Tolcha, Public Relations Director with the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity said the Genale Dawa Hydro power project on Dawa River in far south east of Ethiopia is expected to generate 54 mega watt of electricity this year. “The Genale Dawa hydro power project is almost completed except problems associated with filling the dam with water due to social problems.” Bizuneh saidEthiopia is undertaking a number of power projects the major one being the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) whose completion has reached 63 percent. Meanwhile, Africa’s first energy from waste in the outskirts of Addis Ababa, is close to completion. The so-called Reppie project is set to transform waste disposal for the rapidly expanding city’s population and also expected to serve as a waste management blueprint for the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. “The Reppie waste power project has been completed.
