Ethiopia expands agricultural export strategy at international conference


Ethiopia is actively implementing effective policy measures to diversify its agricultural exports to enhance global competitiveness and improve product quality, according to the Minister of Trade and Regional Integration. The country is currently hosting the 13th International Conference on Pulses and Oilseeds, the largest event of its kind in East and Sub-Saharan Africa, attracting international buyers, importers' associations, value chain companies, agro-processors and grain traders. Ethiopian Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Kasahun Gofe reiterated Ethiopia's commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and creating a favourable environment for farmers and exporters. He outlined a number of ambitious economic reforms, including the transition to a market-based exchange rate, the establishment of non-bank foreign exchange bureaus, the removal of import restrictions, and the opening of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange to foreign investors. He emphasised the importance of increasing agricultural exports, developing the agro-industrial sector and enhancing the value of pulses and oilseeds to expand market opportunities.
