Ethiopia today (September 1) begins its presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Ethiopia is one of the 10 non-permanent members of the UNSC and it takes its turn in a revolving presidency. Ethiopia has planned a meeting on September 20 to deliberate on efforts to boost peacekeeping forces in terms of numbers and capability. The UN Security Council has five permanent members – United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China and France - and 10 non-permanent members. Only the permanent members can veto decisions of the council.
