General Tefera Mamo and Colonel Alebel Amare, among others, are behind bars on grounds of suspicion in connection with the June 22 incident in Bahir. The Ethiopian government and Amhara regional state described the killings that shocked the entire country, as an attempted coup d’etat. General Tefera was in charge of the region’s special force. Meanwhile, Amhara regional police said that it has killed Major Aschalew Dessie in South Gonder area of the region.
