Ethiopia Announces It will Fully Accept Peace Accord with EritreaJune 6, 2018 - Ethiopia announced on Tuesday that it will fully implement the Algers accord to the end the 1998-2000 war with Eritrea. The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, said that ending the war and expanding economic ties with neighbouring Eritrea is critically important for stability and development in the region. The decsion to accept the accord follows the two-day meeting of the Executive Committe of the EPRDF. In response to Ethiopia's offer, the Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Genremeskel told the BBC that relations can be mended but it largely depended on Ethiopia. Ethiopia needs to honour its treaty obligations and respect Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by withdrawing from occupied territories – including Badme.
