At Panathura, in the coastal area of Thiruvananthapuram, stands one such promise etched in stone. The foundation stone for a bridge was laid here way back in 1985, but till date no bridge has come up across the river here, to provide the hundreds of families living in this islet easy access to the outside world. The other connection point is the Thiruvallam bridge, which is a few kilometres away. Nagendran, 70, the boatman, remembers those days when the foundation stone was laid here. Gangadharan laid the foundation stone for the bridge.
