Esplanade comes alive during Chap Goh Meh


GEORGE TOWN: The Esplanade came alive with an air of festivity and gaiety to mark the Chap Goh Meh celebration. Among those present were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin who joined in the mandarin oranges tossing event held outside the City Hall. The women would throw mandarin oranges into the sea in hopes of finding their true love. Meanwhile, visitors who went to Straits Quay’s By-The-Sea Chap Goh Meh celebration also took part in the mandarin oranges tossing session. Before the night ended, visitors scribbled their names and wishes on mandarin oranges before throwing them into the sea to mark the Chinese tradition.
