His skillset and destroying qualities in the centre of midfield cannot be matched by anyone else within Ten Hag's ranks. Casemiro, for the most part, was United's best player last season, playing a key role in resurrecting their midfield woes. Eriksen, signed on a free transfer, did a splendid job last term, bringing control and balance to United's midfield. Long-term, United need to find a younger version of Casemiro to become their midfield linchpin, who will sit deep and do the dirty, ugly side of the game. With Mainoo alongside him, providing both control and energy, and Fernandes ahead of them, it could resemble the midfield Ten Hag has wanted all along.
