Supporters of President Erdogan cross the street to attack demonstrators outside the Turkish embassy VOA TURKISHPolice said yesterday that they would pursue charges against supporters of President Erdogan accused of attacking Kurdish protesters outside the Turkish embassy in Washington. As President Trump welcomed the Turkish leader to the White House demonstrators arrived outside the embassy with placards reading “Free Demirtas” — a reference to Selahattin Demirtas, the jailed leader of the left-wing HDP party. Supporters of Mr Erdogan, including men in suits said to have been part of his security team, gathered across the street and began shouting pro-Erdogan slogans. Video footage shows the suited men then crossing a police line and attacking the protesters. One man was kicked in the head and a young Kurdish woman was beaten.
