The situation threatens to cause an outbreak of filth-related diseases that can spread in the capital of over five million inhabitants. The AMA building and supposed drains around it have become a dumping site for all manner of refuse as water from rains has swamped the basement of the structure and mixed the rubbish to choke drains and parts of the ground floor. The mixture of garbage and moisture continuously attract houseflies and mosquitoes – agents of malaria and diarrhea, diseases capable of starting fatal epidemics. People living around the AMA’s abandoned building at Kaneshie, told Adom News’ reporter Prince Owusu Asiedu the stench the swampy filth exudes, is sickening.
