Enugu East: Court dismisses suit seeking Nnamani’s disqualification

Ade Adesomoju, AbujaThe Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, dismissed a suit challenging the nomination of a former Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, as the Peoples Democratic Party’s senatorial candidate for Enugu East. In his ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo upheld Nnamani’s preliminary objection, dismissing the suit on the grounds that it had become statute-barred. Ruling on Nnamani’s preliminary objection to the suit, Justice Ekwo held that the suit was instituted 60 days after the cause of action arose, instead of 14 days prescribed in the constitution. “The plaintiff ought to have filed this suit earlier than the day it was filed. “On the whole, I find that this suit is statute-barred and I make an order dismissing the suit.”Copyright PUNCH.
