FOOD crops are often treated with pesticides and other chemical additives that can contaminate ground water or nearby bodies of water. Otherwise, these chemicals, whether organic or inorganic, may accumulate in the food or water we consume. To date, DoST-ITDI has developed RMs on benzoic acid in banana ketchup, benzoic acid standard, histamine standard, and sulfite in dried mango. Others are on trace metals in drinking water, such as lead, cadmium, copper, and iron.
