Leon Redbone, the singer/guitarist who kept the esthetic of ragtime, vaudeville and Tin Pan Alley alive through his long career starting in Toronto, has died, according to his website. “It is with heavy hearts we announce that early this morning, May 30th, 2019, Leon Redbone crossed the delta for that beautiful shore at the age of 127,” a tongue-in-cheek notice on leonredbone.com stated Thursday. Leon Redbone and Scott Black on cornet perform with a studio orchestra. Redbone talked to the Star’s Greg Quill in 2007 about his time playing Toronto’s folk clubs around Yorkville in the late 1960s and 1970s.
