As medical staff warn of increasing pressure on resources, figures from NHS England reveal that there are now more patients being treated in hospital for coronavirus than during the first peak earlier this year. There were 20,426 patients being treated in hospitals as of 8:00am on Monday, compared with the 18,974 patients recorded on 12 April, Sky News reports. Also on Monday, the UK recorded its highest daily increase in coronavirus patients since the pandemic began with 41,385 positive tests.
