Energy Dealers in Court to Stop Implementation of 16% VAT On Cooking Gas ▷ Kenya News

Kenyans are expected to pay KSh 350 more for 13kg cooking gas in the latest price review. EDA now wants the court to block the 16% value-added tax on cooking gas that took effect this month July. The 16% VAT was reinstated through Finance Act, 2020, which President Uhuru Kenyatta signed on June 30, 2020. Odongo said cooking gas prices have not changed much since 2016 when the National Treasury ministry scrapped the 16% VAT on the commodity. Odongo said the jump in cooking gas prices will be the biggest in more than two decades and will force consumers to look for alternatives.
