An Australian energy company is giving hundreds of female employees a raise to make sure they get paid the same amount as their male counterparts. The raises will add an extra 1.2 million Australian dollars ($940,000) to the company's annual salary bill. Energy Australia said the new pay packages will go into effect next month, effectively closing the company's current 2% gender pay gap. Australian women earn on average about 84 cents for every dollar that men earn, according to government figures.
