Ending Melbourne's 'toxic culture': Sally Warhaft on why she wants to be mayor

The byelection for lord mayor is being held via postal ballots and concludes on 12 May. She said it was time for women to stand because it is almost 30 years since Melbourne had a female lord mayor. Frontrunners are Sally Capp, the executive director of the Property Council of Victoria, a lobby group for developers, and Greens councillor Rohan Leppert. She has stood aside from her position at the Property Council and announced she would be taking no donations from developers. Mayne said Capp had a distinguished career before joining the Property Council and “she commands respect from both sides of politics – you need a lord mayor that everyone will talk to”.
