Trang Marine Coastal Conservation Centre did an aerial survey to find the shark ray. The bowmouth guitarfish inhabits sandy-muddy seafloors and is classified as critically endangered. Under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announcement No 4, dated June 12, 2018, the bowmouth guitarfish is designated as a protected species.
