This had resulted in failure of agriculture on roughly 300 acre of land dependent on the tank for irrigation. “For the past four years, release of water in PMC from Vaigai dam was unpredictable. P. Thiraviam, another villager, alleged that the encroachments were done by landholding farmers. “They have turned portions of the tank and supply channels into coconut groves and land for cultivation of other crops,” he said. The villagers said that no action had been taken on the encroachments despite submission of multiple petitions with documentary evidence to the authorities concerned.
