The Government says employers who force staff into work during the 10-day period will now be hit with a penalty charge. The practice has been banned since March, but it is now illegal - and it could cost both parties an on-the-spot fine. The charge is a fixed penalty notice but could also lead to prosecution in the courts. You must be employed or self-employed and unable to work from home - losing income as a result.
