Tuesday, August 30, 2016 Emotions laid bare as embattled leader defends her mandateBRASILIA — As she faced the architects of her political destitution yesterday, Dilma Rousseff remained defiant, casting a figure reminiscent of her younger guerilla fighter self, during the impeachment trial to oust her as president of Brazil. Rousseff claims she is being unjustly accused of breaking fiscal rules in her management of the federal budget, an impeachable offence accourding to the Constitution. As they resumed, the suspended president sat to receive questions from 40 senators. Rousseff though remained relaxed, at times smiling and always with an answer to the senators’ inquisitions. Because of their long friendship, Aníbal said he supported Rousseff in the presidency until around 2012.
