Veteran democrat Emily Lau says she expects authorities will use the national security law to bar opponents from running in elections, RTHK reports. NPC Standing Committee member, Tam Yiu-chung, recently told a pro-Beijing magazine that anyone who opposed the law should be disqualified. On Wednesday FTU lawmaker, Alice Mak, agreed, saying opponents of the new law would be in breach of the Basic Law. Lau, a former Democratic Party leader and lawmaker, said such a move wasn't unexpected. Legislative Council elections will take place this September, less than a year after the pro-democracy camp crushed their rivals in district council polls.
