The emergency alert sent to the residents of Ontario by Ontario government on Sunday morning was sent in “error”, Pickering Fire Chief John Hagg said. Ontario Power Generation tweeted, “the alert regarding #Pickering Nuclear was sent in error. There is no danger to the public or environment.”Early Sunday morning, the province had sent out an emergency alert after an unspecified incident at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station was reported, but said that there’s been no “abnormal release of radioactivity.”“People near the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station DO NOT need to take any protection actions at this time,” the alert read. The alert was sent just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning and applied to residents living within 10 km of the power plant, the province said.
