The Elmhurst Police Department is investigating two incidents of burglary to United States Postal Service mailboxes that were reported to police. On Monday, March 6, 2023 at approximately 7:00 a.m. a concerned citizen reported observing a US Postal Service mailbox with its door ajar at the northeast corner of First Street and Haven Road in Elmhurst. Investigation by officers indicated the mailbox door had been forced open with an unknown type pry tool. Elmhurst Police alerted authorities at the Elmhurst Post Office, and checked the remaining outside US Postal Service mailboxes located throughout the City. Over the last year, several break-ins to outside US Postal Service mailboxes have been reported throughout the Chicagoland area.
