Shares in Vodafone rallied yesterday after reports that Elliott Advisors, the American activist investor, has built a stake in the FTSE 100 telecoms group and could shake it up. Elliott has spoken with management and at least one board member, according to Dealreporter, the financial website. Vodafone shares rose by as much as 4.2 per cent on the back of Elliott’s potential interest in the company before closing up 3.6 per cent at 186½p.
